Help when you're off the grid.
Answers to common questions, and a direct line to us. Talus is pre-launch, in final field testing on iOS and Android.
Field manual.
When does Talus launch?
We're in final field testing on iOS and Android, ahead of launch on both platforms.
Which devices are supported?
Native apps for iPhone (iOS 16+) and Android. The same account and data work across both.
Does it work without cell service?
Yes. Download any area at three resolutions ahead of time: base maps, overlays, and LiDAR terrain. Place search runs against an on-device database, and slope, shadows, viewshed, and 3D all keep working offline.
How accurate is the elevation?
Talus reads terrain from high-resolution LiDAR: roughly a meter of ground resolution, foot-level detail where it's available and far tighter than the standard elevation data most apps use. Your live altitude readout fuses barometric and sea-level-corrected GPS on top of that terrain.
What is viewshed line-of-sight?
Drop a pin on a glassing knob, stand, or camp and Talus computes what you can actually see. It maps a live visibility area out to about two miles, green for visible and red for blocked.
Can I share pins with my hunting party?
Any pin can be shared with a short code that drops it directly onto a partner's map.
What's free, and what's in Talus Pro?
Base maps, contours, the 2D/3D map view, and cross-platform sync are free. Talus Pro unlocks pins, tracks, routing, measuring, AR, first-person 3D, LiDAR visualizations, viewshed, hunting-unit and public-land overlays, offline downloads, and offline place search.
Privacy Policy

Talus (“the App”) is a map-based outdoor navigation app. This policy describes how we handle your information.
Information We Collect
- Location Data: We access your device's GPS to show your position on the map, record tracks, and enable the rangefinder feature. Location data for tracks is stored in your account.
- Camera: We access your camera for the AR (augmented reality) feature, which overlays map pins on your camera view. No photos or videos are captured or stored.
- Account Information: If you create an account, we store your email address and authentication credentials via Firebase Authentication.
- Map Pins & Tracks: Custom pins and GPS tracks you create are stored in Firebase Firestore, associated with your account.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the App's core features (mapping, navigation, pin placement, track recording)
- To sync your data across devices
- To enable offline map functionality
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Your data may be processed by:
- Firebase (Google) for authentication and data storage
- Mapbox for map services
- RevenueCat for subscription management
Data Retention
Your data is retained while you have an active account. You can delete your pins and tracks within the App.
Terms of Service
Full terms of service will be published here before launch. In short: your pins, tracks, and account data are yours, stored to sync across your devices, and never sold.
